The mother of Whitney Houston and her daughter began to sing professionally together in the church of New Hope Baptist of Newark when Whitney was only 15 years old. They performed the back vocals in Chaka Khans 1978 track Im Every Woman. Jermaine, her mother and Lou Rawls were a few of those who she sang with. Also, she was a model for Seventeen Magazine in 1981.
