Winona-Ryder

Winona Ryder is the professional name for Winona Laura Hoowitz, born within Winona Minnesota. She was named by her parents in honor of the town where her birthplace was. Michel Horowitz was her father as well as Cynthia Palmer, his mother, were both authors and editors. Ryder is a Jew. Ryder believes that her father was from a Jewish background. Ryder is the younger sister of Uria and two half-siblings Jubal as well as Sunyata. Ryder's parents moved out of Mendocino County in California at the age of seven old. There they didn't have electricity. Ryder was a voracious book reader because there was no TV. Ryder began to study acting in the American Conservatory Theatre in 1983 aged 13 years old. In 1986 she landed her first role on the big screen in the film Lucas aged just fifteen years old. Ryder experienced bullying at the high school. Ryder hoped her acting career would alter the way she dealt with bullying. Sadly that didn't happen. The actress continued to chase her dreams. Her biggest break was in 1988 when she appeared in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder played successful roles in various films. She received nominations for two Academy Awards one for her performance as a character in The Age of Innocence (1993).
